Title: Council 4859 Support of Holy Family Cathedral Family Activities for 2017-18 Fraternal Year

Council: Our Lady of the Snows, 4859

Category: Family

Date: July 1st thru Present

Purpose of activity: Council 4859 Support of Holy Family Cathedral Family Activities for 2017-18 Fraternal Year.

Description:

For 2017-18 Fraternal Year, Council 4859 members participated in three (3) key Family oriented events at Holy Family Cathedral:

  1. Friars Fest event at Holy Family Cathedral is an event held yearly in early August in which Council 4859 participates by donating and preparing a rib and chicken lunch with proceeds from the sale of the lunch going to the Dominican Order of our Church. For Fraternal Year 2017-18, this event was held on Saturday, August 12th, 2017. Other ministries also prepare ethnic foods that are sold at this fair with their proceeds also going to the Dominican Order. Our council also conducts a split the pot raffle throughout the day using our Council 4859 gaming permit. This year, we were able to raise about $1,000 from Council 4859 for this event. There are also games and entertainment provided in this event for the families.
  2. “Fat Tuesday” is an event having Catholic roots in Mardi Gras. It is a feast/celebration that occurs the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday (the start of Lent). It is a time of one last celebration in which we clean out our pantries and use up the fat, eggs, and dairy before the fasting and abstinence of Lent begins. Council 4859 provided a pancake and sausage dinner on February 13th, 2018 to the families of Holy Family Cathedral for this event.
  3. Each year, Holy Family Cathedral has a Thanksgiving Lunch for the families of Holy Family Cathedral on Thanksgiving Day. For Fraternal Year 2017-18, Council 4859 provided the turkey dinner itemsĀ  and prepared the food for the Thanksgiving Lunch. It is a family event well attended each year by the parishioners and their families at Holy Family Cathedral.
